Up in the air with...

Christina Carlsen

Firstly where in the world are you from?
I am half Danish, half Swedish and born in Denmark. I am from North Zealand region (Nord Sjælland) which is north of Copenhagen.

What’s the best thing about where you live?
General things: Friendly people Scandinavian culture Biking culture
More Specific things: The view of Islands Brygge from my apartment Everything you need within walking distance of my apartment

If a tourist was visiting your home city/country, what 3 places would you recommend they visit?
Islands Brygge, Tivoli Gardens, Søerne (The Lakes), Kongens Have (The Kings Gardens) I know that 4, but had to! ;)

Best restaurant in Copenhagen?
Here in Copenhagen is Noma, the best restaurant in the world, with a very long waiting list!
Some other good restaurants: MASH Nimb Terrasse (located inside Tivoli) Marv og Ben

Best bar in Copenhagen?
Madam Chu – cocktail bar
Bar Rouge (The bar at First Hotel Skt Petri)

You spent most of your childhood moving around Europe, what the biggest challenges you faced?
Leaving behind the familiarity and friends. Then having to not only learning a new language but learning to adapt to the new culture, schools and friends

What’s the best thing about experiencing different cultures at a young age?
You get a wider perspective and understanding for things. Becoming more independent at a young age. You are have to work harder, so naturally become a hard worker. You also appreciate things differently, like good friends & family.

How many languages do you speak?
Danish, Swedish, French & English

What’s your favourite word or phrase in a foreign language?
My favourite word is the Danish word ‘Hygge’, it can’t be directly translated to English but the closest to it is ‘cosy’.

' I had never tried Smurf  Ice Cream before visiting Nice, France'

Any tips for learning a new language?
Best way to learn a language is living in the country, it forces you to practice more.

How important is it to have friends from all over the world?
Its not necessarily important, but it does widen your own knowledge of the world and understanding of how other people live and also allows you to visit these places too.

Best thing about your time spent living in England?
Getting friends for life and learning English

One thing you miss about England?
Obviously my awesome British friends but I also miss the cliffs where I used to walk a lot.

Working at a Hotel you’re bound to of heard some crazy room requests- spill the beans...
A guest requesting for a person to come clip their nails. So having to find and order a person to come asap! We managed! There was a very drunk Norwegian bachelor party, where the guys couldn’t get hold of the groom who had passed out drunk in his room, so I had to go to the room to help wake him up so he could continue his own bachelor party.

What would be your top three travel essentials?
iPhone
 Beats by Dre headphones
 Good walking shoes!

Tell me about your first holiday memory?
Disneyland Paris with my family when I was nine. I remember watching all my favourite characters in the Disney Parade.

Best travel memory?
Experiencing the botanical garden in Camara de Lobos and all the amazing nature on Madeira. Spending Christmas with my family in Avoriaz, skiing all day everyday. New Years in Berlin with my Boyfriend

Worst travel memory?
I really can’t think of anything!

Your favourite summer getaway?
I fell in love with Seville on a summer trip a couple years ago, and can’t wait to go back there one day.

Where do you plan to take your next vacation?
Hopefully a skiing getaway with my boyfriend or somewhere hot and exotic for Christmas or a weekend break to Stockholm

If you could be anywhere else right now, where would you be?
It is very cold (-3 average) and snowy here in Copenhagen at the moment, so why not on a beach in the Bahamas!

She has come along way since she first moved to Denmark back in 2009. After spending an entire childhood moving from country to country, house to house, Christina finally feels content with her life in Denmark. Apparently she isn't the only one who has fallen head over heels in love with the Danish way of life either- according Lonely Planet, Denmark is the worlds most contented country.

Christina is your typical Danish 20-something and proud of it! You will probably spot her on her bicycle heading to her IKEA decked out apartment, dressed head-to-toe in H&M.
After landing herself an internship at First Hotel Skt. Petri in Copenhagen, she packed her bags and moved in with her boyfriend, Alexander. For Christina it had always been a dream of her's to experience living in Denmark's capital.
A successful internship later, not to mention a degree under the belt, She was offered a permanent position as Event Coordinator at First Hotel Skt. Petri. Not a bad way to start 2013 if you ask me!
